Fort Negley Historic ParkWinner ASLA TN Chapter Merit Award 2006Description- Interpretive signage and pathways for Fort Negley, the largest inland Civil War stone fort in America. The design allows access to the public for the first time in 65 years. The system of paths, boardwalks, signs, barriers and native grass areas guides visitors through the site without risking further deterioration of the ruins. The design addresses many challenges, including minimizing ground penetration of this archeological site and ADA grade issues. The interpretation is designed to educate and generate civic pride and tourism opportunities. Material- Steel, Corten steel, limestone, wood, embedded graphic panels, granite with laser etching, concrete, and native grasses.
